We are planning to use WebWiz Forums for internal use only for my company. Users will mainly be private messaging each other with attachments (important documents, presentations, etc) We want to use it to send files as attachements to each other (hence uploading) instead of putting any load on our exchange server of emailing attachments. I just noticed that PM doesn't allow uploading?!? Also there is a limit of only 2MB, how come? I understand why there is a limit, but this low of one?? I guess it has to do with security of all the files being stored in one folder? that anybody can access anyways. Would be nice if only the user that was sent the file can be the only one to download it. I guess I will have to MOD the program to do what I want? Maybe I'm looking at the wrong software for my needs?

The limit is because nearly all upload programs have a limit of 2Mb for file sizes.
Using the forum to send files (esepically large ones) to other users is a very bad idea for a number of reasons:-
- Small file limits
- Not very secure and can allow a hacker to get into the server
- Upload components are very resource hungry and usually mean the
rest of the site stops working while the file is being uploaded, making
the site look like it is not working.
- Anyone can download the file, unless you use windows
authentication which can be difficult to setup and require the user
enter a windows username and password
To be honest you would use less resources and be better off using email
to send files or setup FTP accounts so that users can FTP files to each
other. Or even just use MSN messenger as we do to send files around the
office to each other.
