In the last few days my forum has developed a problem

when you post a reply, the reply posts fine but you get a page with this error message

Persits.MailSender.4 error '800a0004'

Connection refused.

/Forum/functions/functions_send_mail.asp, line 268 __________________________________

No emails are generated and when you check the item posted ok?

any ideas?

Looks like for some reason the email component can not connect to the SMTP server, which is refusing the connection.

Check that your host has not changed the configuration on the SMTP server you are using.
