I am moving to a new ISP, and they just upgraded all servers to SQL 2005. I know nothing about 2005. I own licenses for 2000.

Any tips? Is DTS still available so I can move my database over? Where can get tools, or do I need to buy 2005?

You can download SQL server 2005 express edition which is free so you can use that for development and to test conversion

I don't believe the express edition comes with any admin tools but most features of Enterprise Manager should work with it.

Enterprise Manager will run with SQL 2005, and I still prefer it over the SQL 2005 Management Studio, mainly because I'm use to the old version.

The only thing you have to watch for with SQL 2005 is that it has limitations that prevent you moving databases between different versions of SQL Server 2000 to 2005 and between different versions of SQL 2005.

The Express version of SQL 2005 Management Studio, which is free, is naff and comes with no DTS import/export tools, but if you can get the full version on Management Studio it does.

SQL 2005 Management Studio comes with the Developer version of SQL 2005, which I bought the other day and costs less than £50 inc. delivery, so isn't to expensive and good for developing SQL 2005 databases on.
