Hi I have searched for this and not found anything, so please forgive if this has been answered already

i am looking to place code from google adwords on the sign up confirmation page so i can track sign ups to the forum ( same as you would track sales) from keywords that i am using in ppc search engines to see if my keywords convert to forum members, which page would be the best to add this code to?

register_confirm.asp ??

or would this cause any complications with people that have to reconfirm/re-registering/changing details etc?

many thanks

JP

It should be OK, although I don't know how you would pass the info you need to this page as you have to go through the regsitartion_rules.asp page first when signing up.

The script is supplied by google,

as i understand it the code track the user from keyword search through to your site, at this point the user can do anything but when they reach the page with the code in it ties the two together so you can see whether the keyword hit produced a 'sale'

this allows you to refine your keywords to optimise your traffic from those keywords which work best.

it is used by lots of online shops etc, i just want to see which keywords are getting me relevant enough hits that the visitors decide to register for the forum.

many thanks for your help, i'll let you know how i get on

Then the registration_confirm.asp page would be the best place to place it to see how many people actually register in your forum.

Although all the registration pages, including registration_confirm.asp, are also used when updating user profiles, so there maybe a few errors in the Google reporting, but I imagine your users will only click the advert the first time they use the site.

Many thanks for the help, i have done this annd it does seem to work, for google anyway, but i have a small problem now and i wonder if it's related.

i have noticed from my satcounter that a number oif users are confirming their registration and then getting insufficient permission page

repeatedley i can see them hitting confirm link in the email and then getting this page, they are obviously having a problem activating membership.

any ideas,

is this a bug that's fixed in vers8 or have i done something when i added the google code? i didn't change the page just added the code to the bottom!

many thanks, web wiz forum is great!

Without knowing exactly how users are ending up their, or if it could just be a google bot doing it, it's hard to say what the problem is
