Wow, version 8 looks awesome - speed is amazing!!!

I see there are some database changes so "upgrading" from previous versions could be messy getting all data across..?

Big smileBig smileBig smile - borg - how did you get data across? or did you just edit the old db (on this site)

Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend using version 8 of a live site as it is not yet stable, which is why I have not yet written an upgrade application.

However, if you want to test with your prevent version 7 database the way I did it was to go through the database changes in the 'Version History' file and created the new fields and tables in the oversion 7 database.

However, the new fields Last Post ID, and the number of Replies, will be incorrect unless you write some way of populating those fields in the database.

Yes, just testing locally.

Thanks.

If you follow the database changes in the Version History file it should be fairly simple.

It only took me around 5 to 10 minutes when I did it myself just after Christmas.

Most of the changes are removing fields from the database, there are only a few new fields added to tables and 1 new table to store Poll Votes.

Hi boRg, does this mean there will be a upgrade app sometime in the future?

There will be an upgrade tool from the Release Candidate version and up.

At present the forum is still not complete, with more database changes to come, so an upgrade tool would be usless at present.
