I am attempting to test an upgrade to SQL 2005 for my forum and have run into a bit of an issue.   After detaching and copying the ldf and mdf files to the new server and then running a reattach on the SQL 2005 box and changing the SQL_server_connection.asp to reflect the new password for the db, I can get to the site at default.asp but if I try to get into anything in the forum it gives me a 500 error.... now I know this is DB related because after i mod the SQL_server_connection.asp file to point back to the old DB server with the old DB password it works...  does the fact that I changed the DB user password on the 2005 server make any difference?

If so how can I mod the DB to allow access again from that DB user?

Sorry, I am a SysAdmin with some SQL experience... I can get around SQL and make some changes, perform maintenance, etc... but when I come across stuff like this I google and if I can't find an answer, I ask.

I also tried searching on this site for "SQL 2005" but the new search is only allowing 4 or more characters for each word... Borg, you might wanna consider revising it since SQL is a commonly used search term.

Thanks in advance!

The forum will move from SQL 2000 to 2005 as I have done so myself.

However, the way I did it was to use the DTS Tools in the 'Managment Studio' to copy across the database rather than attaching and deteching files.

Also if you turn off friendly HTTP error messages in IE you will get an accurate error message that will help findout why you are getting the 500 internat server error.

I do plan on changing a number of parts to the new forum search engine including the amount of allowed characters for seperate words, although for the moment if you select phrase 'SQL 2005' will work as it doesn't count the individual characters in words. The reason 4 was choosen as the allowed characters was that I got the idea form some large PHP forums that have 4 as the allowed characters in searches.

Actually I did attempt to search for 'SQL 2005' and it gave me this error:
Search Error

One or more of your search criteria is below 4 characters

Thanks for the information regarding the SQL move... I will look more into these tools in the new Management Studio.
