with the coming release of 8.0 i thought i'd fool around with MySQL a little.  i've downloaded version 5, and see it running in Component Manager (xp pro).  My question:  even tho. i'm having trouble logging in, yet i can ping it, what tool(s), like EM for MSSQL, does one use for this.   recomendations are more than welcome.

I purchased a copy of SQLyog, and must say that along with mySQL Administrator, you can do everything you need to within mySQL.

yog i like.  the one problem i have is restoring/importing from my desktop to my ISP.  before i spring for the Enterprise version, does anyone know if it will do that?   there's got to be a way to do it.

The way I do it, but requires access to the server, is to simply copy the data folder for the database in question from one mySQL intence to another.

i this particular case i don't have access to the data folders, still trying stuff tho.  i would think we'd need to sort this one out as i expect others to experience this.

WOOT!  Using yog,
1.  on my connected desktop db:  export database as sql statements
2.  connect to ISP db and  import from sql statements

and walla!   data, structures et al  moved.

I've not messed around with yog to much as I only use it for reading data in a mySQL database, but it does a good job, which is why I bought a license for it.

since i may use it every now and then i think i'll get the pro version to get rid of the nag screen and help support them a little.  it strikes me as a pretty good product.
