v. 7.97 is working fine, but the following error keeps occurring on v. 8 and there is nothing I've been able to do about it:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'

Invalid column name 'ID'.

I've researched this whole forum, but nobody else seems to have had this problem.    The error message shows up on the insufficient_permission.asp page, but all the permissions have been double and triple checked.

Durn.

Do you have a line number for this error?

oops, just got your reply.  Yes, it's:

/forum/common.asp, line 257

This is when attempting to log in at admin.asp

If it's really a permissions error, it sure had me fooled, 'cause I can't imagine what else needs to have the permissions set or reset.

Perhaps the problem was caused by upgrading from asp to asp.net1, and then to asp.net2?  In asp it wasn't necessary to set the permissions for a subdirectory of a directory which were set, but in asp.net1 , each subdirectory had to have permissions set.

It sounds like the database is not correctly setup.

The table tblConfiguration should have a field called ID which is set to the value of 1. This is a new field that wasn't in version 7

The column "ID" was added to the table tblconfiguration but it's not clear what you mean by "a value of 1", as there are 6 columns which could each have a value of 1:

Length
prec.
scale
default
id.start
id.seed
row

Also, it's not clear which type of value this should be.  I tried a number of them at random, including "bit", "smallint", "nvarchar", and "nchar" and randomly placed a 1 in different columns--but never hit the right combination.

The error that comes up is:

ADODB.Recordset error '800a0cc1'

Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.

/forum/common.asp, line 299

Try opening the database and in the ID field give it the value 1

If this fails delete the entire database and run the SQL server setup file again.

If you don't delete the database you will get errors when running the setup file as the database tables will already have been created.

Bear in mind that you're dealing with a chimpanzee here.  If you give me a pencil and call it a banana, I'll probably eat it );

I don't see any ID field in the "data base".  From your prior post, I'm going to assume that you're referring to the table called "tblConfiguration",  in which there are three columns:

Id.
Id. start
Id. seed

I thought before that you meant to create a row called "Id", but now realize that you're referring to the columns.  However, all rows in the "Id." column are set to "false", there are no entries in any of the rows of the columns "Id. start", and "Id. seed", and there's no obvious way to set them to "1".

"Delete the data base"?  Bear in mind that v.7.97 is running on the same data base. Won't we lose the entire forum if we do that?

If so, and if the data base can't be corrected, then I don't think we'll want to upgrade );

Is it possible to run both v. 7.97 and v. 8.0 on the same data base, or will that cause problems?

I'm sure anxious to get it working if there's a way to do it.

Version 8 is still in beta and is unstable and does contain bugs, so I would NOT recommend placing it on the same database as version 7.x

Also allot of the tables will have matching names, which will course conflicts, which is why you are probably seeing these errors.

Ah, ok, I was not aware of that, and appreciate your clarification.
