Hi guys, My PC has a crap graphics card, so I got a new one. The one I had before was a Geforce FX5700 LE, which was pants, and I got an Asus X850XT one which should be pretty good. However games and stuff really it didnt make that much of and improvement! Does anyone know why? The rest of my Pc is: P4 2.4ghz 512kb cace (Socket-478) 1GB DDR Ram ASUS P4GE Motherboard (4x AGP only) Are my processor and motherboard just too crap? They are a few years old now. Is that where the bottleneck is? Especially with only 4x AGP. Thanks, Tom |

I believe the latest AGP is 8x so that may make a difference. My graphics card is a PCI-E card that only cost £50 and works great and full quality on most games. |

i think that your graphics card may be very old as compared the latest one and also your AGP 4x is also very old. so, there is a problem to your pc for because of this reasons. ------------- Dharmesh Parmar |

| See, the Asus X850XT is pretty much one of the best you can get, I think the only one better is the PE editition and some new 512mb one, but why does it run so bad on my pc? |

X850XT is good for non-PCI Express, but the 1800xt is better ;) It could be a number o things, not just one. Do a disk clean, defrag, registry clean, virus scan, and clean up the computer. When i got my new video card i just backed everything up and did a format. Also when i go play a game that requires a lot of resources i turn everything that that i dont need like IIS, SQL, Anti-virus, networking, printing services, themes, error alert services, etc. ------------- http://www.iportalx.net" rel="nofollow">

for game playing, u can install additional copy of windows and tweak it down to the lowest. disabling everything not needed by the game.. it may only save u a few MB on memory but if u turn off a lotta things, it makes a big difference
running hard disk in certain raid configs also increases throughput.. making system work faster..most of the performance bottle necks are at the hard disks ------------- http://www.web2messenger.com/theboss">

| okies. *THE* reason why it is not giving much of a performance boost is because your motherbaord is only agp4... I believe that the fx5 series from gf was pretty much the upper limit of performance for the 4x format. Being as how the 850XT is designed (ideally) for pci-x, and the card itself is AGP8x, its going to to bottleneck badly... Basically, to get it to run at its best you need a agp8 MB.... just be thankful you didnt plug the card into and agp2 MB, or it would have fried the card and/or the MB... |
