I had a web guy taking care of my site. He has gone out of bussiness. I got a copy of my site but have never even seen the admin control panel before. I cant even find a link to it. Nor do I have a password to get into it. He did all that for me. Is there a way that I can go into the server and reset this so I can bring my site back up/ Right now it appears he had it turned off when he made the backk up and when I had my new server company install the files all went fine but I cant turn the baord back on. Any suggestions would be great.....

Okay let me break down what went down here so it will better help you all understand.

My partner and I had a web site. It was located on a server over seas. The web site had been slow and he is going threw a devorce. So he has decided to give up on the web stuff for a while. Our sever was set to expire so he said he didn't want in anymore. He was the one that new web wiz forums and how to work his way around in them. I had him make me a backup of the server and we put it on a disk. I desided to keep the place open so I went and got a new server. I have uploaded all files to the server and all looks well. When I click on a link to the board it says that the baord is down for testing right now and will be back up soon. So I am assuming that he has it turned off in the control panel. Now I cant get access to the panel as I have never had access to it nor do I even have a link to get to it. This is my first time even looking at web wiz forums I have always been used to VBulliten.

So before i trash my site and rebuild from scatch and lose all my info and members I am asking for any help I can to get this turned back on so I can learn what is wrong.

The forum admin page is probably at either  http://www.yoursite.com/forum/admin or http://www.yoursite.com/admin

Basically, you need to reset the forum administrator password and then use the admin login to unlock the forums from the admin pages.

To reset the admininstrator password...
Assuming you are using MS Access DB...

Download the data base and open it up in MS Axxess.
  • Open the tblAuthor table.
  • Look for the row with Author_ID = 1 and Group_ID = 1
  • The Username field on that line will probably be administrator but it could have been changed to something else.
  • Change the following fields on that row:
    • Username to administrator
    • User_code to administrator2FC73499BAC5A41
    • Password to A85B3E67CFA695D711570FB9822C0CF82871903B
    • Salt to 72964E7
    • Author_email to your email address

Upload the DB again and you should then be able to login to the admin page through one of the links above and unlock the forum.

It would be a great idea to change the admin password while you're at it and then to read the install readme that comes with the WWF download about how to secure your access db from hackers.

If you're using MS SQL, use Enterprise Manager to edit the db and make the changes to the administrator record.

EDIT: - forgot to add that after the changes to the db, your login will be administrator with a password of letmein
