oh ...
Thans a lot -Borg-
I update my test forum now ...
can we use this version on live sites ?

This version can be used on live sites as no more database changes are going to happen before the final release.
It is also considered stable enough for production servers, but as a Release Candidate version it may contain some minor bugs.
From larger forums that have already upgraded this morning the performance gain has even surprised me.

I have now released official database update tools for Access and SQL Server 7.x to 8.x databases.
These tools are still in beta testing, but feedback so far is good, but use them at your own risk:-

boRg did a GREAT Job... We just released 8.0 RC1 and it is SOOO MUCH FASTER!!! I recommend this to everyone! We used the Upgrade tools without a problem! We went from 7.9 to 8.0 RC1. We are running SQL 2005 also!

I'm also going from Access 7 to MySQL.
I have found the following tool:
http://www.data-conversions.net/access-to-mysql-pro-converter.html
It has the ability to save to a MySQL dump file for importing through PhpMyadmin, since usually you don't have direct access to the MySQL database. I'm going to try the tool to go from Access 7 to Access 8 and then try this tool to go to MySQL.

I noticed that the CAPTCHA is only displayed on the Admin menu, but not on the main log on screen.
On the last version all the users had to input that as well, but for whatever reason I can't find where to enable it again.
I did the database conversion which was successful, what am I missing here?
Thanks, everything looks great!

It is enabled but a new system is used so that it is only necessary to enter a CAPTCHA code after the 3rd un-successful login attempt on an account.
This way users don't have the hassle of entering the CAPTCHA code, but it is still in use to prevent dictionary and brute force hacking on an account.

Database upgrade v8 beta1 to v8 rc1 ?
|

I've always been a fan of WWF, and this version 8 is even better than ever.
I don't see an answer to this yet - if we've been using the beta version, what is required to update to RC1?
Thanks!

There were big warning signs all over the beta download page saying not to use it on live servers as you may not be able to upgrade.
The only option now to upgrade the beta version is to go through the version history file and make the database changes manually in the database, then replace all the files with that of the new version.

boRg;
I wasn't complaining at all, and don't have the beta on a live server. I was just wondering of the scripts/database had changed enough that it would be more efficient to overwrite everything and re-apply any personalizations.

I have to say that version 8 of WWF is totally amazing. Some of the things that impress me the most:
1) Support for MySQL. I just started messing around with MySQL and wonder what took me so long. Performance at much less of a price than MS.
2) Integrated RSS support. This is HUGE.
3) Fast processing and rendering. Another bonus.
These three things alone make WWF an unbelievable package. Hats off to you, boRg!

Bad link on the press release, not that it matters, those who really want it, figure it out pretty easily. Thought I'd let you know though. I thought I had posted that somewhere else but can't find it now.
Cheers

This means that you do not have sufficient permissions to write to the Access database. Contact you web host to get the correct permissions set on the database directory.

Borg, since, the version 8 was released, are you going to start the skin contest? I would like to join it :P
|
Posted By: WebWiz-Bruce
Date Posted: 24 March 2006 at 1:30pm
I'm still going to do it, but I've just releised the Easter release date is only a few weeks away. Which is not enough time to have the competition.
I still plan on the competition, if you want to get started, but incase any bugs come up in the CSS of look of the forum I've decided to wait till the full release.
Then the winners of the skin contest will have their skins included in version 8.1.
The main rules will be that the skins need to work without modifying files within the actual forum (just modifying the skin files), and that all images are your own work (not pinched from somewhere else, as this may course copyright issues)

-boRg- Hi, first of all webwiz really the one asp forum. But webwiz must win php forums.I think it is easy to add Reput(pointing) system or medal rating system for users/topics fot you.But most of us not as good as you on asp. Then a mod builder can built or you own then entegrating it in webwiz. You add birtday mod, X user is vieving on homepage and X user is doing X on active users list.Thats great.I only want you to add a rating system to get our forums more interesting.I can find you or make medal images or stars or i can give you formulas algoritms or ideas but i cant built a mod.
I know you are tired, you are working a lot and you have other projects but please help us about mods.Only the neeeded mods.I write you about 2 years ago like this.Choose neeeded mods(I said birtday mod etc) and please add default and i see you do it:) Please do it again.

Great Job Borg,
I like V8 RC1, Currently I translate this version to Turkish. And I test it on my test server. I must change some codes (looks like warnings, prevent content copying etc) For this reason when you release final version I must know what files have changed between RC1 and final. Do you publish this info in the versions.txt ? I decide this :
- If I change a forum file, i copy it and add a prefix "_" to name
- Change original file and i must add comments ( '********** CHANGES BEGIN*************)
- Save file and upload
Then, when you release V8 Final i easly find my modifications. Sory my bad english grammar
Borg this work is possible ? I think you dont change database structure. If you change any file please inform us by versions.txt looks like older versions.. (you made this)

Hey people these are all great ideas but Ver8 will e a base for everyone and it's gonna be impossible to please every person who wants to use the forum. If your looking for one feature imperticular then chances are someone else will be too...
Pop over to the mods forum and make a request, you may find someone over there who is looking for the same thing or someone who may help you acomplish your goal.
Mods are there to extend the original functionality of the code base and to make it do something that you want.
Iamzaga and superlative, wait for the complete release of Ver8 in Easter as any changes made to code now may not work in the final version. Beyaz_seytan this is easily accomplished, wait for the final release and i'll be glad to show you how to do it.
Enjoy your forums

Did I miss something or is it by design that once you post a response, you bounce back to the beginning of the thread? Except apparently in moderated threads.

There is a known bug that effects some forums that doesn't calculate the correct return page. This has been fixed for the next version.
