Hi Borg, Sorry for reposting this, but I guess I had made my previous post in the wrong place. I used the migration tool to upgrade from 7.x to 8.0 using access. Upon completion, it said the migration was successful but with an error. Once I set up the converted db to run with the forum, I get the following error:

Server Error in Forum Application
An error has occured while reading user data from the database.
Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_Access_getUserData()_get_member_data
File Name:- functions_login.asp

Error details:-
Microsoft JET Database Engine
No value given for one or more required parameters.

Any Ideas what this could be?

Thanks in advance!

It looks like the upgrade tool has not worked and some of the new fields have not been created.

Go back to your original backed up database and use a copy of that to run the upgrade tool again.

If you get an error again, let me know what the error is so that I can look into this issue.

Thanks for your response Borg.

Below is the error I receive when upgrading the database:

Field 'Hide' already exists in table 'tblTopic'.

Error Update the Table tblThread

If you are getting an these error is suggests that you are not updating a version 7.x database.

Get your original 7.x database and run the upgrade tool, only once on that database.

If you get an error let me know, and make sure you keep an original copy of your database.

Running the upgrade tool on a database that is already update will screw the database up.

Hi Borg,

I am currently running version 7.9 of the forum. And it is the original database that I am using.

Yes I know that.

But you are having a problem with upgrading, please follow my suggestions in my previous post and try the upgrade process again on your version 7.x database, NOT one you have already tried to upgrade.

Hi Borg, I appreicate your patience!

These are the steps I took to upgrade the database:

1) Downloaded a copy to my local machine to keep as a back-up.
2) Uploaded a copy of that db to my database folder in the new forum directory i created with WWF 8.0.
3) I ran acces_update.asp and pointed the script to database/wwForum.mdb (i renamed the uploaded db to wwForum.mdb)
4) The script still produced the same error.

I never ran any of the beta sites, so there is no way I could have updated the database already and I am not getting any error when running the db I copied from on my live site.

Could you let me have a copy of your original version 7.x database so that I can run some tests on it and find the exact course of the issue?

This way hopefully I can refine the upgrade tool so no-one else gets this issue.

Thanks javi712 I've got the database and can see the problem.

You have modified the database yourself adding in new fields, this is coursing the update to fail.

The update tool is failing because it is attempting to alter tables with new fields with the same names as fields you have already created yourself. This is coursing the entire SQL Alter statement to fail on those tables.

For the upgrade to be successful, you must restore the database to the original 7.x state.

The following are fields you have created yourself that are coursing the conflict:-

'Hide' already exists in table 'tblTopic'.
'Hide' already exists in table 'tblThread'.
'Display_post' already exists in table 'tblPermissions'.

If you remove these fields you have created in the database and then run the upgrade tool it should work.

Ahhh... I wish I could have seen your last post before I started looking at the databases myself! lol. But you are correct, I removed those three columns and that allowed the upgrade script to update successfuly. Thank you very much for all your help and patience!

Glad to hear it has now worked.

I have also placed a note about this on the download page in the hope that others don't have the same issue.

I will also place a list of field names into the upgrade installation instructions later to help aid others with a modified databases.
