Hello,
8.0 RC1, Win2003SP1, SQL2005 Std
I noticed several hangs when forum waits for 5-60 sec with simple operations - like using admin menu or new post adding

It may be fixed by IIS+SQL restart. Does anyone face with this issue? Are there any clues to fix it?

Thank you in advance,

Sergey

The SQL code in version 8 has been gone through many 100's of times to make sure it performs as fats as it can.

You should not have any delays of 5-60 seconds  and in tests I have never seen delays of this amount.

It sounds like it could be a server issue:

It could be network delays (if not using 'localhost' database.
Try restarting the SQL Server and see if that solves the issue
The server or servers maybe busy doing something else, again try rebooting
If you are adding a new post it could be a delay in contacting the SMTP server to send post notifications that is coursing the delay (try using a 'localhost' SMTP server)

Bruce, thank you for your reply!
I use local SMTP server and local SQL server...If I face with the same issue, I will restart IIS, test it, restart SQL, test it.

Actually, I saw "Please wait" message for ~1min after logon, but server was not busy (CPU ~20%, memory ~50% free)...I restarted SQL+IIS and issue was gone

I think it very hard to troubleshoot such issues. Probably we may ask gurus to publish they recommendations for typical SQL/IIS settings? Like "Simple mode", "Autoshrink", etc for SQL

The only time I ever had an issue which sounds similar was in testing when I was creating the database on the SQL Server, sometimes it would slow down after creating the new database, but restarting the SQL Service would clear the issue up and it wouldn't appear again.

Maybe some strange issue with SQL Server when you create a new database.

Also I only ever saw this issue with SQL Server 2005 (I was using the Express version)

Simple recovery model and auto shrink for the database are also recommended so your database doesn't get to large.
