I noticed that Login session expires frequently when I am in the forum and almost everytime when I close browser and open it again.

Have some idea why?

The login session last 20 minutes.

If for some reason your browsers cookies are not working then auto login will not work and you will see a session ID appended to the URL at the top of the page.

If this is the case then every time you leave the forum and come back a new session will need to be started.

If you are getting a session ID appended to URL's within the forum then you need to look into why cookies are not working for your browser or for your site.

This also happens to me too
It also happened on version 7.79 and down so i'm assuming it's a server thing?

This only happens over at my forum and not here.

No session ID is attached and cookies are fine.

Turning all cookies off produces this error.

Error: Un-Successful Login
Your login was un-successful due to a session tracking error.

Please ensure that cookies are enabled on your web browser and you are not hiding or masking your IP address.

Shame you didn't start a new topic Mikey as there are a number of reason for this to happen, in your case it sounds like your server has an ASP session issue.

Your server may being using load balanced servers, a web garden, or an issue with the application pool is coursing it to recycle to often.

If you can not fix the session issue on the server then in version 8 you can edit the file 'functions/functions_session_data.asp' and change the following variable to true:-

Const blnDatabaseHeldSessions = True

This will force version 8 to use the database to store the session data, this will effect performance, but will fix your session issue.

I did try this a few days ago but it made no diffrence, I have just tried it again and still no diffrence.

On average on a cookied forum it takes about 3 refreshes and the session is lost

Are you using IP masking or changing your IP address?

If not then you have a server issue that can not be fixed within the software and you may need to look for some different forum software that uses a different way to track users.

I'm seeing the same thing. I deleted all of my cookies and changed the function setting. I'm also not convinced that it's my server because the problem doesn't seem to happen with Firefox (I'm going to test it out for a full day today) and I have the same problem on this forum.

I never had this issue with 7.97.

Make sure that your IP address is not being changed, if it is then the session tacking will fail.

Also allot of internet security software such as ad blocking, script blocking, etc. courses more issues than it is worth, so try disabling such software on your PC and see if that sorts out your issue.

I have no idea wether i'm changing my IP lol i get Broadband through NTL and that passes through a Linksys router which sends the signal out to 2 PC's and 1 Mac wirelessly

I'll get my hosting company to have a look round, they're very helpfull and if it is a server issue i'm sure they find it.

... Use another forum software!!!!! NEVER LOL
I'd rather my users and me just have to re-login all the time lol.

Sorry I am closing this topic as it has become impossible to answer.

Each of you have a similar issue but probably for a completely different reason and trying to answer you all in the same topic just becomes confusing.

Please each of you start a new topic and give as much details as posiable including if you have the same issues when using this forum.
