Could I suggest that you make your mailing list field on your website allow more charaters because with an e-mail address like:

mailto:hockenpj@wellington-college.berks.sch.uk - hockenpj@wellington-college.berks.sch.uk

You can not sign up to your mailing list.

I know but I am not allowed to use web-based e-mail from my school.  This doesn't mean that I can't get round it. I was just a suggestion.

Don't worry, its a good suggestion. There are plenty of people that don't have a choice when it comes to email.

In fact it's better to have a proper email address rather than web-based IMO. At least that makes people accountable and there's a chance that they can be traced if required.

How much SPAM originates from web-based email such as Yahoo or Hotmail!

spam doesn't really come from yahoo or hotmail servers. They mostly originate from spam servers or open relay servers, then they just forge the email headers to make it appear that the message originated from yahoo or hotmail.

Spam is the REASON i got a hotmail account, to keep my personal email away from spam.

It is a good suggestion though...I wonder why there's a character limit that's so low. hm...
