Hi.... If i was to modify the table with an extra column for a modification I'm doing, would this cause problems with the original software?

It shouldn't do, but you never know, best advise is try it and see.

Just make sure you use a unique name for the column, and preferably one that won't be used in future versions as it may make upgrading difficult.
