Hey friends,

Can anyone help me to understand the exact meaning and use of the following...Smile

What is the difference between
<meta name="description" content=""> and
<meta name="keywords" content=" ">

Here I assume that I should write important Keywords from my site in <meta name="keywords" content=" ">.. Big smile but what is the other one?? what should I write in description.. ??

Is there any limit of keywords to enter in keyword content???

AND

what is this for ???

<META NAME="OWNER" CONTENT="">....??
<META NAME="AUTHOR" CONTENT="">.... ??

What should I write in above contents???

and What is keyword spamming??? Google says that they object it and will disqualify the site ... what does that mean???

Plz help me understand all this.. Big smile

thanks...

- Sonya

In Keywords, write actual keywords that relate to you site, never write keywords that have no relevance or write the same keywords in your page over and over again this keyword spamming and will get your site blacklisted (and rightly so!).

In description, write a nice to the point description of your site. for instance my description for my east london Skateboard community is...

"Skatenstone, East London Skateboard and BMX community"

Make sure all the pages on your website have nice descriptive titles as well.

many people have diffrent ideas on this and some people make mega bucks from helping companies. hopefully you'll find this helpfull i personally have never had any problems getting my site listed highly in the top search engines.

I'm fairly sure keywords are not important any more as search engines now primarially search content.

This is pretty much true but it does no harm to include them, better safe than sorry.

The "owner" and "author" tags are merely vanity tags and have no real function other than to allow the author a convenient place to place some personal graffiti.

Just as an aside...
I usually use a robots.txt file to stop access to a site by the search engine bots while the site is being developed.

During development, you often move things around and if you move a page after a search engine has indexed your site, visitors who follow the link from the search engine will see a 404 error.

Better to wait until the site structure is final before submitting it to the search engines.
