Hi Everybody Big smile

Excuse me if this has been asked before, I couldn't find anything by searching.

Is there a way to set up a test forum on my own machine for testing skin mods, etc?

You would need a web server installed that supports asp - either iis or pws installed for version 7.x
For Version 8, you would need iis as pws doesn't support asp 3.0 (I think).
Apache doesn't support asp

iis doesn't come with xp home - only with xp pro.

there's a thread within the past couple of weeks about some alternate web server tht seems to run the forums ok.

You'd also meed to install database server as well.
I use Win XP Pro with IIS6 and SQL server 2005 express edition.

You can also download msde - MSSQL 2000 - light version from MS or the Jet drivers for MS Access.

How do you connect the forum to the database? I mean what's the path to the db? I have a backup of my online forum datbase sitting in Enterprise Manager and I made some modifications to it and was wondering if I can test it offline... I do have Win XP Pro and SQL Server 2000 installed as well as IIS.

Thanks for the replies :)

I don't have any of the stuff listed above LOL so I guess I'll continue testing on the online forum. Thanks for your help.

Ummm it's been a while, it all depends how you set up SQL server,
I just plopped my forum files in webroot of IIS then edited the the database details to point to the database, which in my case was 'computer name' and 'database name'. I no longer test localy but if i can find my config file i'll give you more details.
