in the movie "the core" they show a really nerdy hacker dialing number on a cell phone throught a paper whistle.. for god sake.. ok now i kmow there had been a phreaker in the past who used whistles to dial numbers at public phones but today cell phones are beyond the paper whistle technology for hacking..

This does not matter to the normal viewer. They want to portrait to the normal guy who knows squad about hacking how "cool" he is. Most of those movies show applications e.g. email clients that I would love to have if they actually worked like that. But they just dumb it down for the normal viewer so it looks like Tom Cruise is using some super-duper app.

The whistling thing only worked on copper phone lines that have support for analog technology. Cell phones only use digital technology.

I don't mind the 'high-fantasy" aspect with totally unreal things like those. It's just a story after all.
What is poor is that the stories themselves are based on, "oh, we need
another explosion... let's blow up a car. Oh, and we need a hot chick
with big boobs. Let's have a beach bikini scene..." Much of it without
any reason.
I find there are too many sex scenes in most movies - they don't need
them. Directors would do well to study their Alfred Hitchcock a bit
more. He terrified audiences with shadows and chocolate syrup.
Then again, special FX aren't a substitute for a good story. The Blair Witch Project proved that.

am not into 'scary movies' as its just kinda boring, to me anyway
it the storylines of sum teenagers travelin down a road in the middle of nowhere then come across a mass-murder seem a bit 'played out'
and this thread is funny, as ive been thinkin lately that movies suck and ive been thinkin that film writers think up stuff like how many explosions they need etc and what special effects they want to have, then write a story so the FXs work, but maybe i just misunderstood movies, but i thought that FXs was ment to enhanse the storyline, not the storyline enhanse the FXs
i blame The Matrix

Teenagers are the largest movie going demographic group in the US. They like tits and things that go boom.

Yeah and then the movies get the blame, when it should be the kid or their parents.

You have to consider the budget of those older Bond movies though. For that money you could not even make a Home Movie these days. If you look over especially older movies there are a lot of weird errors like when he arrives at the airport he enteres a yellow cab and gets dropped off by a checkers cab at the hotel.
What drives me nuts the most though, is actual stupidity, especially in movies involvin history, some directors should get their facts staight before they shoot.

well i personally am not that bothered by little errors like a wheel trim comes off twice, or (as you said) gettin out of a diff cab (how do you know he didnt stop off on-route? )
but the major errors, like films that are based on fact, and where people come back from the dead
apparently Titanic had SOOOOOOOO many errors, including a guy comin back from the dead
oh and ive never heard of karachi, so it makes no difference to me

Have you noticed in movies .. Computers always BEEP !!. They type something on the keyboard and it beeps and then when it has a result it beeps as well.
Saying all this, movies are "MAKE BELIEVE" and should be seen that way..They are good for a bit of mindless fun ... when you had a crap day and you want something Brain dead to do.. :-)
None of them are true .. even those based on true stories..

the movie name is "the living daylights" yeah right.. and whats up james bond russian fetish..
to me, james bond looks more like a cold war era propoganda tool...
its not only history and geography knowledge what directors need to work on but also on their scientefic.. anyone seen another 007 crap called "moonraker"
these days, all hollywood movies revolve around the same theme.. some infidel becomes a threat to US national security or wants to uncover government black deeds to the public..or shoots the first lady by mistake... the entire FBI and CIA is after him, this one super being is able to take down entire teams of heavily armed FBI and SWAT with on damn hand gun.. in the end.. based on the movie context, he is either a hero and rewared or a villian and punished.. honestly kids can write much better storylines than the idiots sitting in hollywood..
