It took quite a while to figure out how to delete a member. There should be a button or link to do this. A deeply embedded checkbox is a) hard to find and b) requires far too much drilling down.

Can it be made easier to find?

It is where it is to try and discourage admins from using it.

It is much better to simply suspend users accounts, thus disabling the accounts of people you no-longer want as your forum members.

This has a number of advantages, such their posts are not shown as being posted by a Guest, they can not re-register as that user again, and if email, activation is enabled, they can not re-register using the same email address.

Then why not post a message on the member deletion page to that effect?

Hiding the function does not seem like a good idea. Just be up front about it (on the admin panel), but don't make users have to hunt for it.

Based on your comments, I totally can see your point about not deleting members.

Also, it prevents someone else from signing up with the same username!  I saw this once on a forum where a particularly annoying person got banned and the admin deleted his account after a few month.  Well, not to long after, someone new to the community, not knowing that the username belonged to someone with a poor reputation signed up with that username.  Since it was a large community and that banned person had such a reputation, the new person was instantly overwhelmed by IMs and weird posts directed toward him!

It is much better to NOT EVER delete a member, especially a banned member.

It's not hidden, it's just placed with all the other admin tools for the user when the admin edits the users profile.

All admin controls for the user are in the same place, with the delete method being with them, so I wouldn't say it is hidden away and is the most logical place to put it.
