That is correct.

The reason for this is a new image/file upload system is used, whereby images and files uploaded are attached to posts and are now deleted when the post is deleted.

The 'username' work around in version 7.x was only used because images and files where not deleted when the post was deleted.

ic, so when a user uploads an image to the forum it just goes in "uploads/" and not uploads/username. Cool thanks for the clearification borg.

Also borg can we use your upload feature for other things? if so do you have an example? What i want to do is have ppl be able to upload a "banner" to my site.

You can use the upload code if you want, but as it's quite complex to deal with multiple components, it maybe simpler just to use an example from the site the download component you are using comes from.

Version 8 is simply fantastic! I noticed a couple issues with the image/file upload feature I thought I'd bring to your attention:

1. if the post is edited (img uploaded is removed, for example), the file remains on the server. shouldn't the file get deleted as it gets when the post is deleted?

2. if i rename a ZIP file to .jpg or any other acceptable graphic format, the forum will allow it. Though it isn't viewable in the post (there is an image with a red "X"), if I right click that image and copy the URL, I can get that file. is there some kind of way to check the validity of a file if it is a graphic file other than by its extension? for example, maybe you can check for the file's resolution, if the value doesn't exist, don't save the upload to the server.

1. Although if you edit the post and remove the link to the image/file it remains on the server, it will still be deleted when you delete the post. This is due to the image/file name being stored in a separate fields in the database and not a part of the link in the post.

2. Only safe file/image types are allowed within the forum for security reasons, but there isn't a way to eaisly check the content type in ASP
