Subject: Can't login to my forum

I can't login to my forum. It only happens on one PC. Microsoft had a bug with update 908531. It added new security and a file named verclsid.exe

The problem would lok up browsers until the verclsid.exe process was killed. $MS came out with a fix for this (a registry hack). It solved the problem I had with MS Word (it wouldn't save files another result of the new security file) but I still can't login to my forum. I have tried firefox broser etc but it doesn't work either.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

John Cesta

Make sure cookies are enabled on your PC and you don't have any Firewall, AV, etc. software running that maybe blocking cookies and/or javascript

I just installed v 8 and followed the instructions - I put it on a test machine to make sure everything is cool before going live.
I cannot login with the administrator supplied details it just keeps asking me for the  username password and gives me a new code over and over.

I have v 7 running and i can login to that no problem so i know its not my system

I got em both on an XP PRO box running latest IIS and ASP. They are in different directories so they wont conflict

It sounds like your server has an issue keeping the ASP session and or ASP Application, thus dropping the details stored in the web servers memory.

If you can not fix the server issue, then you need to edit the file 'functions/functions_session_data.asp' and change it so that it uses the database to store the forums session data and not the servers memory.

I figured out what was wrong - I just had to set the default webfolder differenty and now it works.

I finished up the email component - thats working fine
I configured the system to use aspSmartUpload but it doesnt seem to work the as described. The test screens it comes with to upload are NON FUNCTIONAL - but when I try via the forum, it allows me to do the full update, then it doesnt post the message.

I get a new_post.asp page which gives an error
Any ideas why

Here is the error I get (testing this from the machine where the forum is installed and running
I click to add a file or an image - its the same result
I load it up, it does the whole preview thing, then i get the page of the post back with either the link, or the included image

I click POST REPLY - and this is the URL that shows - and it says page cannot be displayed

http://localhost/new_post.asp?PN=1 - http://localhost/new_post.asp?PN=1

It sounds like the upload component isn't installed correctly, until it is you may find you get the type of errors you mention.

Try using Dundas Upload, it's one of the simplest to setup and is free.

Well I actually went to their site and tried to find it and its not listed as downloadable anywhere.
Also I checked my uploads folder and the files are actually uploaded and sitting in the TEMP directory.....I guess awaiting approval .

As the person posting the message I dont ever get confirmation - it just gives me that error  and page cannot be displayed- it seems like the upload ASP section is working but this is an error coming from the forum system itself

Not really sure - but i know the image did get transferred. I had a remote user try it and it did transfer as well
I tested the aspSmartUpload using the test uploader they provided - after I fixed the config problem - and all of them worked to transfer files up and down - so that aspect IS working....just not via the forum

Do you have a link to the Dundas ----- cuz I coulndt find it on their site

If you turn off friendly HTTP errors messages in IE you will get what the actual error is, which will help solve what the problem is.

Do a search on Google for Dundas download.
