you need to do a compact and repair on your OLD DB prior to attempting to upgrade. You will find it under the tools menu I beleive when you have the DB open in Access.

Thats the error most of us get but for some reason they will not tell us how to fix it. I guess they want us to move to other Forum Software that has support for the users.

This Migration tool was not done by Bruce and is not necessarily supported here. v7 final just came out so you might give it some time and something will come up.

I had the same problem. But when I moved the old634.mdb, new7.mdb AND the migration MDE file into the C:\TEMP folder (yes, all three must be in the folder), then it worked fine.

Sorry Guys, have only just seen this thread.

For the record, Error 0 in Access indicates an "unknown" error typically with the [MS Access] program installation or setup where installing the latest SP will usually correct the problem. Alternatively, it could be linked to file corruption in which case compact / repair both Old and New DBs.

The migrator was produced with the Dev Edition of Acc2k patched with the latest SP3. Since it uses linked tables to both old and new DBs, it is flexible enough to migrate to / from any combination of 2k / 2002 and even 97 though I have not tested the latter.

The App itself requires a full version of Acc2k or 2002. Using my own Acc2k test rig, it is NOT necessary to run the App from c:\temp although the old and new Dbs must of course reside there (paths were hard coded to that folder for expedience). If moving the App to c:\temp solved your particular problem then great but it would suggest an error with your prog setup.

Hope this helps

There is someone that had converted an old 6.26 database in a 6.34 or newer version DB?

The migration tool doesn't seem to work for 6.26-->7.0 migration...

Help me!

Wrang--zip up you old database and email me for a way to download it. I'll convert it for you if you can't get it to work. I just did this for another person Saturday.

I will only convert from v6.34 to v7.01 with an Access database. If you run SQL you then I'm not much help although I could upsize it I suppose.

Email me at mailto:rex@rexpage.com?subject=Database Upgrade - mailto:rex@rexpage.com?subject=Database Upgrade

The old database doesn't have to be of version 6.34. I have converted a 6.11 version several times to 7.01 or 7 beta versions without any problems. Your problem is likely related to something else.

The Migration tool WILL work from 6.11 onwards (possibly from v6 provided the DB was not changed - Bruce please confirm). The problems that a very small minority of Users have experienced result from their particular Access setup.

I also had probs with upgrading but it seems like all is well now. Im now uploading the upgraded MDB and i hope it works good now.

When i tried to convert the db's it said it couldnt find anything but all was named as supposed. But now i looked in my temp folder (tried it 4 weeks ago for the last time. ) to c that the DB (wwForum the v7 version. ) was grown to almost the same size as the old DB. Musta have done something that made it work. lol.

Well, I've downloaded my old 6.26 mdb and done the migration. Then I've putted the new file on my server, in a new v.7.1 installation folder. The members are right, but I've got this error message accessing forum/default.asp:

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e10'

No value given for one or more required parameters

/forum/functions/functions_common.asp, line 383

Perhaps some missing configuration..???

Your problem sounds like the wrong Driver setting to me. Find the common.asp file in the forum folder (I assume that you have successfully changed the other common.asp in forum/admin in order to configure) and recheck you have correctly set the Pathname  name (strDbPathAndName=) as well as selecting the correct driver a few lines lower (line 198 unmodded).

For more info, reread Bruce's detailed setup instructions

Thank you Nigelo for the fast reply!

But... but... I've got another error! I've corrected the database driver with the one:

strCon = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ="....

But when I tried to access the forum's home page (default.asp) I've got this error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e10'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Too few parameters. Expected 1.

/forum/functions/functions_common.asp, line 383

Well, functions_common.asp has only 300 lines... not 383. What shall I do?

(And now... bye bye! I start my holidays. The problem can wait!
See you next week! )

I have my db upgraded. I found out were i went wrong.
In the guide were it says how to rename them it says: ( not an exact quote) rename to old634.mdb & rename to new7.mdb
Renaming has to be done to old634 & new7  without the .mdb tags cuz its already a .mdb file.

I hope i help sum1 else out with this info cuz ive been struggling for a long long time on it.

That would be called "Tool...Folder Options...Hide File Extensions for Known Types (remove the checkmark)".
