Has anybody successfully customizing the forums app to add the capability of a daily digest e-mail notification?

The Daily Digest feature, which is user-configurable in Yahoo, is a make-or-break issue for a potential customer of mine. skbohler asked about this in February; besides that entry I can't find any other posts more recent than 2004. Can someone please tell me if this is a dead issue? Or hopefully that someone has even posted a mod for this?

It is difficult to do something like this in asp as you cannot program jobs in asp. Unless there is a guarantee that someone is always on your website there is no guarantee that the email job will get (manually) kicked off.
You can just do it in another technology like asp.net which you can use to run jobs.
