Subject: Bug : number of forum topics and views
Date Posted: 02 May 2006 at 7:22pm
First problem is the number of topics and views in a forum
for example if a forum has subforums its just show number of topics posted in the main forum not subforums + main forum

Second problem is that if some body post a topic in a sub forum, forum doesn't show the username as last topic poster (at bottom of the main page), because the user has posted the topic in subforum not in main forum,

so is there any way to solve this problem ?

Please do a search before posting as this has been discussed to death and I'm fed-up of repeating myself on this subject!!!

This is NOT a bug, and if you had done a search you would have found that this was done by design.

When sub forums first came about users were asked if they wanted the stats of the sub forums included in the main forum index, and most people didn't, so the forum was intentionally written this way.

This is an issue which is why there isn't a solution as it is not a bug.

If you wish to modify the forum to work in a different way to the way it is designed then you are welcome to do so.

If you have a look in the mods and add-ons forum, someone may have already written a mod to make the forum work in the way you would prefer.

I don't want to make you mad, but I am one of those that would rather have it the other way. I create a main forum where I can post admin stuff like the forum description, rules and policies, then allow my members to post in the subforums of that main. The problem with the way it is now is no one can tell if there are posts in the subforums unless they actually open one.

I'm going to go and see if someone has done a mod for this, but in my opinion, I think you should create a function that allows us to choose which way we want it. I also don't understand why anyone would want to hide how many posts there are in any forum just because they are in a subforum. It's just not logical....

I downloaded 8.02 a couple days ago and installed it. I just checked it and it still is the same way. Did I miss something? Is there a new setting somewhere I need to change?

I'm lost as usual, lol Approve

It is there and it does work.

Try downloading the 8.02 version again and replace the default.asp file with that from the latest version.

LOL, I figured it out. My server is stubbornly hanging onto the cache again. I tried everything, even deleted all the content from my browser (on a separate machine) and the old install just kept coming up.

I even deleted the entire webfolder and reinstalled the new version and I still kept getting the old one....

Finally, a server reboot got rid of the old files and now everything is perfect. Thanks again for a tremendous job well done...

Wonder why it does that? Windows Server 2003, MsSql Server 2000 SP2 and IIS 5.0.....

Do you have any compression software enabled, sometimes the caching done for compressing can course problems. It's best to set it so that only static pages are cached for compression.
