I have tried to install forums v.8 on my website, but when I try to open the website I get the following error mesg:

Server Error in Forum Application
An error has occured while executing SQL query on database.
Please check that the MySQL Server version is 4.1 or above.
Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_mySQL_get_birthdays
File Name:- default.asp

Error details:-

[MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver][mysqld-4.0.18-nt]You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '(tblAuthor.DOB) = 23 ORDER BY tblAuthor.Author_ID DESC' at line

Does this mean that the version of mySQL used by my webhosts is not the right version?

It does.

The error says that the version of mySQL you are using is version 4.0, you need to be using version 4.1 or above.

Contact your web host as they often run different versions of mySQL side-by-side and maybe able to move you to a newer version of mySQL.
