Every once in a while I like to publish articles. It's fun and lets me relax while doing something productive. Site Reference published and article that I recently wrote for them: http://www.site-reference.com/articles/Website-Development/4-Methods-to-Protect-Email.html - 4 Methods to Protect Email .

Anyways, I'm sure that a few of the gang here at WWG might like to look into publishing articles for fun.

Just my $0.02 worth of encouragement.

Cheers,

Ryan

I've got another original article coming out in the http://www.oisv.com/ - OISV when it launches. The article in on SEO and usability.

It's not something that I really wanted to publish as it's some non-obvious stuff that I've never seen anywhere else before, but is basically just common sense. I've been keeping it a "secret". But since the site is private and not open to everyone, as well as being started by some friends of mine, I figured I'd put out some of the 'good-stuff'.

The amazing thing is that I've never read it anywhere else before, and I've read a LOT on SEO.

It seems to me like a lot of SEO gurus look to find holes or maximize ratios instead of doing some decent clean SEO with solid tactics that are meant to be friendly for users.

I've never been a fan of the unicode encoding method - they already search for characters and strings. How hard is it to search for the unicode for those char/strings?

The javascript method that changes when you mouse over is clever. Never tried anything like that.

Ultimately however, for me, adding mail capability to a site is just another task that I need to complete quickly and then move on. Most of my clients like the "custom" look and feel of a form. I have a canned email form system that takes 5-10 minutes to set up.

Most of my forms get tested by spammers once or twice a month
to see if they can be used as a relay but since I started using Bruce's CAPTCHA on the forms, they stoppped doing that.

Forms are good, and certainly much slicker than an email link, but the thing I don't like about them is that invariably you end up getting someone who mistypes their email address, which makes it hard to respond.

I do like the CAPTCHA idea though.
