Hello!

I am trying to gett the RSS feed to work without any luck.  This the only content i can read " his is an XML content feed of; Sirius P 92 Forum : Last 10 Inlägg.

This file is intended to be viewed in an RSS News Aggregator or syndicated to another site.

I have been forced to change the forum adress to default1.asp

Do you have any suggestions?

Regards Timo G

RSS Feeds are XML files. How they are intended to work is that you either have a browser like Firefox, Opera, IE7, that supports RSS Live Bookmarks, or you use software like News Gator were it takes the RSS Feed and converts it into a live feed to your desktop.

There is an XSLT RSS News Reader built into web wiz forums but it's not required for the RSS Feeds to work. If this isn't showing correctly you may need to change the character set encoding in the file 'includes/setup_options.asp'

That all depends if that encoding supports the character set that you are using.

It only shows the latest posts in an RSS News Reader, and only for those forums that allow Guest Access.

Is it possible to change this behaviour? I don't want (all) my forums to be accesible (or readable) for guests, but my members should be able to get  all RSS-feeds.

Maybe something for version 9?

Until such time an RSS Reader becomes available that is able to log into a forum system, it is not possible.

I'm sure it must be possible. I'm a member of a dutch site which uses snitz forums. They have a RSS-feed, which works pretty simple...

- I get all messages from all forums
- I can read all guest-viewable posts without logging in, when I want to reply I can fill in my accountdetails (no separate login needed)
- If I try to read a post placed in a protected forum I get a page stating 'You have to be logged in to acces this page', with a link to login. When I click it I can supply my account details and get forwarded to the protected message. All of this within my RSS-reader.

Maybe you could have a look at this system. At the Snitz forum I found this http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=61018&SearchTerms=rss - post  which describes a system based on usergroups. Unfortunately I don't have acces to the RSS-mod itself.

I believe what you mean is that in your RSS feed you will get just the topic subject of each new post, you can then click on this to be taken to the forum within the RSS Reader, but you need to login to view the post.

I have considered such a system before, but from past experience found that people don't want even their topic subjects known to none users, and cry out that it is a security issue if they guests can view just the topic subject.

Also the RSS Feed for Web Wiz Forums also includes the post and not just the topic subject as this is much better for many RSS Readers and saves the user coming to the site to read the post.

I have a problem with the RSS feed with and my Greek text. On the forum the Greek text work fine, but with the feed they appear as ????????.

I noticed that once I hit on the RSS button in a forum, it takes me to one page, which refreshes to another one. On the first page, before the refresh, the Greek text is ok, but once it refreshes, the Greek text becomes ???????

Is their a way were I can stop the refresh?

In addition to my earlier questions...

Is it possible to only show the RSS-button for registred members?
So if a guest visits the site he/she doesn't see the link?
I know guests will still have acces as otherwise RSS doesn't work, but this would make tracking of my site a little more difficult.

Thanks in advance

You need to edit the includes/setup_option_inc.asp file and change the strRSSPageEncoding variable to a page encoding that your Greek language works in.

Only posts that Guests can read will be shown in the RRS Feed so it doesn't matter that Guests can see the RSS Feed button.
