Subject: Odd entries in table of Access database version

I have noticed a few entries in my database tblTopic table that are showing like this:

Central Coast (ARF Contact Available to H
that should be
Central Coast (ARF Contact Available to H

Another being

Bindi's puppies
that should be
Bindi's puppies

It seems to only be affecting the letter (o) and the symbol (') so far

They seem to show up fine on the forum but when someone is subscribed to the topic, the email is sent out with the subject like this

My forum name : Bindi's puppies.

Is my database corupt? I compact it fairly often.

I only have 27 members and over tghe last 3 - 4 months only have 300 or so posts so it is not being overworked.

I have the ritch text editor turned on also.

My members use IE, Firefox and some are also MAC users. Not sure if this has any bearing but I just thought to mention it.

I hope to keep it an access version to transferability as I am hosting it on one of my servers at home, but if someone else was to take my place it would be just a case of copying the files to their hosting and changing a few configs and it is up and running again.

It isn't impacting my forum too much but I am worried about an impending problem.

Someones input would be appreciated.

Cheers

Justin

Certain characters are HTML encoded for security reasons, to prevent XSS Hacking.

So how is this decoded for the purpose of the email subscriptions? Obviously it is decoded to be displayed on the web page.

Is there a reason why the email subscriptions subject line is not decoded and instead sent as it is shown in the database table?

When displayed as HTML in the a browser it is automatically displayed as normal text by the browser has it is HTML encoding which prevent XSS Hacking when displayed in a browser.

In version 7 the encoding was done on the way into the database, in version 8 to improve searching it is now only done when displayed in a browser.

This may mean that some older topics will display incorrectly in emails, but this should clear up as new topics don't use this.

That makes sense.

Yes these were old topics before my upgrade to 8.03. Can I just edit the database table to correct the entries. There are only a few or will it cause other problems.
