how do i translate a visitors ip address to an ip number??

what is the difference? or do you mean ip address to host name? there you would need a component

If you mean something like a Ip address without the . then you could use replace(request.serverVariables("REMOTE_ADDR"), ".", "") other than that i havn't a clue of what you mean!
