Hi,

I have above average knowledge of ASP.NET 1.1 and want to begin learning version 2.0. Can anyone recommend a book to me? Was thinking something like the following:

I currently have http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1590595637/sr=1-1/qid=1154849985/ref=sr_1_1/202-4382538-7887057?ie=UTF8&s=books - Pro ASP .Net 2.0 in VB 2005

I brought this book when I had NO knowledge of the .Net framework. I would recommend this if you have Visual Studio 2005.

I have the same book and like it. It's part of a 2 book series - Begining and Pro. If you're ok with 1.1, the Pro is the way to go.

I've read the index of Beginning ASP .Net 2.0 in VB 2005 and remember thinking it would be a good book for a beginner - goes into why but not excessively. Looked like it got you into how pretty quickly.

I was just about to buy the first one... how basic is it?

I don't have the beginner one but I was holding both of them and trying to make up my mind which one to buy. The Beginning one seemed to go pretty far into stuff you'd use a lot.

I had (read that as "still having" - lol) some trouble with some of the usage concepts in the pro although I've done a few 1.1 sites. Probably takes me longer to figure some things out than it should.

I probably should have started with the beginner as .NET is not one of my primary languages, but Amateur would be better off with the pro.

Interesting...

Well, Microsoft sent me VisualStudio 2005 and SQL server 2005 yesterday and my host is FINALLY upgrading to asp.net 2.0 so I'm thinking the time has come to finally migrate to dot net.

(Yes, I voted!!)

Also, the recent posts here on .net have been useful.

Thanks (AGAIN) DP... you and I are going to have to figure out a way to make money together... I feel like I owe it to you.

I have both of those books, lol The beginning asp.net 2.0 in vb 2005 from novice to professional its a very good book for anyone that wants to start learning. A lot of the other 2.0 books out there wants to just teach you how to code without writing any code using VWD 2005.

But this book teachs you about the codes themselfs not just the drag-and-drop of vwd. I like to write my own code, that the fun part for me. As for the Pro ASP.NET 2.0 Website I haven't gotten into it yet, but I will be starting it soon.

I just received Programming Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 Core Reference ... oh my GOD! This is a friggin monster book. @ 800 pages this is going to take a month to digest.

Remind me... who recommended this again. Sheesh.

No really, I love these books and with my new server that will have 2.0 installed, I'm really excited to dig on in.
