Hey Bruce...

Any plans on making the RTE XHTML?  Also any plans on making the HTML this version generates validate?

I have integrated it into a blog I am developing and had to keep the doctype to HTML, even then I can't get the pages to validate...  Its a shame is its without a doubt the easiest to integrate with the best features - But validation is quite important to me ...   Any hows... Just thought I'd share that...

(Last question - Where do I change the code to stop it putting <br> instead of the <p> tag and also how can I get it to change the <br> to <br/>.. Thanks)

The RTE actually uses the built in RTE API of the web browser.

This means that it is the web browser itself that generates the HTML code.

In IE the code it produces is shocking (like with many MS products), but in Firefox the code it produces is much more standard complaint.

Hopefully with IE 7 MS will have worked on their RTE API to produce better HTML code.

Hmmm ok ... I actually used firefox when I posted it, but it will not validate ...  especially the smiley absmiddle ??   As the web is moving towards more strict web standards, thought it would be V cool to have maybe an RTE that generated XHTML and maybe CSS....  If not make this one produce HTML and it validate, as I think this RTE is the best one - But I have now got to remove it from my blog and try and use someone elses that validates

I found this one on my search... Thought it might be of interest?

The present Web Wiz RTE took over 6 months of full-time development, to build one that didn't use the browsers built in RTE API for the code would probably take another 6 months at least. You would also have a much larger product that would require Java or some other language to run and so would be much slower to load and so couldn't be used for things like the quick reply form in web wiz forums.

The Web Wiz RTE was developed for Web Wiz Forums, and a standalone version was only made available for those wanting to use the RTE in their own web sites.
