Hi all,

I had a weird thing happening to me, and i was wondering if this was a known problem or not. Ill try to explain it here.

Webwizforums version 8.04

I have created a few categories, one of them being Private Forums. Underneath this category i have created a few forums that are only accessible and visible to one user group.

Over the past few weeks, several users have been moved and delete from this user group and they no longer have access to these forums. That is all working correctly.

However, at one point in time i deleted a user who just created a post on one of those forums that were only accessible to the dedicated user group. The creator of that post changed from the username to the GUEST group. That also makes sense.

However, from that moment on, the specific forum was NO longer visible to anyone. It did not show up anymore in the listing under Private Forums. It just vanished.

The forum was still reachable by its direct link though, using the FID=number link. I tried to change the settings of the forum, reset the rights and all, but nothing seemed to work.

Untill i tried to make a reply to the post which was now labeled by the GUEST user account. When i posted a reply with an active account that had rights to the forum, the forum showed up again in the list.

So, in short, it looks like there is some problem with forums and forum visibility when the LAST post in a forum is made by a user that has no rights in that forum. Ofcourse normally no user will be able to make such posts, but if a user is deleted, this problem will surface.

I hope my post made sense.

I think I know what the problem maybe.

For performance reasons the database is normalised and the last person who posted in a forum has there ID associated with the forum as the last poster.

What has probably happened is that because this user no longer existed no data could be retrieved for that entire forum, by making a new post in the forum it would have updated the ID of the last poster.

I shall carry out some tests to fix this issue, but could you please let me know if you completely deleted the user from their profile?

Thanks for your reply.

I did indeed delete the user completely. I went to Admin, Membership admin, then found the user, and edited its profile and selected delete this user from the profile menu.

Hope you find anything.

I have tested this and the last post ID is updated so this shouldn't be an issue.

It could be that you have a corrupted file, so you should reupload the fiels again from the latest version.
