Hi,

We upgraded our heavily modified version of Web Wiz 7 to ASP.NET 2.0 using Netcoole's ASP2ASPX.  I was wondering if you had plans to do the same?  If so, I would love to merge some of the codebase at some point.

Thanks,
Michael

To build a proper ASP.NET version will mean a complete re-write, just porting the code would end up with a slower running forum than the present ASP version.

To build an ASP.NET 2.0 version will mean starting from scratch and building the forum from the ground up, which will take around 12 to 18 months of full-time development work to be at the standard web wiz forums version 8 is at.

At the moment considering whether to make the move to ASP.NET or start developing for PHP, as Microsoft seems to be making everything over complicated and forcing people down the Microsoft only root, which only seems to be attracting corporate users and forcing the mainstream to look for alternatives to ASP away from ASP.NET.

We did the site conversion in 2 weeks (2 extra weeks for our own additions).  We are now cleaning the code -- porting include files to master files + ASCX controls, implementing caching object, creating OR mapping using NHibernate, real  .NET classes (yay), TinyMCE, switch to C#, etc.

To let you know, the ASP.NET site is about the same speed as the ASP site.  You should seriously think about porting to .NET because it would only take you about 2 months to do the port with 2 people (not 18 months) and will allow you to do TONS of better things with WWF right off the back.

In fact, I believe Mono will mostly work with ASP2ASPX (although I'm sure there is some code touch-up).

BTW: http://www.php-compiler.net - http://www.php-compiler.net  is a great PHP port for .NET 2.0 and getting better all the time.

Sincerely,
Michael
