There is a database upgrade tool on the download page which updates your database and gives instructions on how to upgrade your forum.

Is there a document that lists the new tables that v 8.x added in to the database? i need this so I can import topics from a ver 8.x db (access) to a v 7.x DB?

Thanks

Sean

you would have to look at the database scructures, quite a bit has changed within the database.

also bare inmind that alot of security improvements and coding techniques have been fixed in V8.

and V7.x is not supported for bug fixing etc now V8 is out of beta, V7.x is over 2 years old. i would advise keeping v8 but upsize to SQL Server if access is not coping

Why would anyone want to go back to a less secure older version?

Version 7 has a number of security vulnerabilities that have been fixed in version 8, which also has much improved performance and features.

We urge all version 7 users to upgrade to version 8 ASAP to make sure there forum remains secure from hackers.

If you are wanting to go back to version 7 because you have heard rumours that version 7 came with a less restrictive license agreement? If so then please check the license as version 7 had almost an identical license to version 8, including for the ads in version 7, also the version 8 license supersedes any previous license so the latest license is the one that applies for all produces both past and present.

I don't understand this statement.
What symptoms make you think that V8 is to fast to be used with MS Access?

To fast for Access LOL

If anything version 8 works better with Access than version 7, as there is less database reads and writes there is less chance of the Access database becoming corrupted.

Even though I would recommend it I've seen version 8 forums running on Access with over a quarter of a million posts, there is no way version 7 would have been able to do that.

lol - That's why I asked for the problem symptoms. I think he jumped to a wrong conclusion about what's causing a problem, but we don't know what his problem is yet as he hasn't described it.

No, but Sean did have a very valid and significant point about upgrading 7.x to 8.x, and that is the table structures have changed so much, the only way to get the mdb of 7.x to work with 8.x is to manually enter in the new field structures of each table so that they match.

This is unacceptable to anyone that's been using WWF for awhile and has a significant number of users, topics, and posts they want to keep.

Unless I'm reading wrongly, you are saying that you need to manually upgrade a 7.x database to 8.x

This is incorrect, there are database upgrade tools on the Web Wiz Forums download page, that will automatically upgrade your 7.x database to the version 8.x database.

Using this database upgrade tool you don't need to touch your database, the whole process is taken care of, and you keep all your 7.x posts, members, etc. and all old posts are automatically updated to work with the new version 8.x database schema.

The database upgrade tools also come with a step by step guide on how to not only update your database but also on how to update your whole forum. It has been designed to make the whole process as quick and easy as possible and judging by the lack of support questions on using the database upgrade tool, I'm guessing that most users are finding the process quite painless.
