Subject: Post number count in thread

I tried to search...  Is it possible to have a post count within a thread show up next to the link and date posted?

Like - If this is post 12 of a thread

(link bullet) Post #12 Today at 1:59pm

Is this possible?  or is there a MOD already out there that will do this?

Thanks

Where are you thinking of having the info show up?
If on the thread/posts page... what link are you referring to?
If on the active topics page, it has a link to the last post and a reply count.

I want it to show on the 'forum_posts.asp' page like the one we are on now

The link I am referring to is the circle bullet image that is the link for the actual post within the thread.

If we look at your post in reply to my question, it would look like this (0 = link bullet image)

So in this case, this post would be #3

Thanks for trying to give me a hand!

EDIT - The reason I was asking for this is for threads that have, say, 50 pages.  You want to tell somebody to look on page 5 at post #54 for the answer to their question.  Something like that, hope that helps.

OK. It's not particularly hard. Just a line or two in forum_posts.asp.
A couple of questions first...

  1. Do you want the initial post in a thread counted? If yes, then as 0 or 1?
  2. If the initial post is a poll or calendar entry, should it be counted?
  3. Do you want hidden posts counted even thought they're not displayed? - e.g. post 8 is approved and displayed, post 9 is awaiting moderation and not displayed, post 10 is approved and displayed. Should post 10 display a 9 or a 10?

1. Yes, initial post will be 1
2. Yes for poll, calendar is disabled - but I would say yes
3. It is not a moderated forum at this time, nor do I see it being in the near future - If you are going to help with this, whatever is easier

Thanks

Wouldn't it be easier to click the bullet, then copy and paste the URL to the person you're sending the info too.

Ie, if I wanted you to look at your second post in this thread, I'd just give you the following URL, which would take you straight there;

http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=21765&PID=116330#116330 - http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=21765&PID=116330#116330

Erm.. I'm not quite sure I understood what you're asking here, but if it is, the value you're looking for (i.e. the Post counter for each topic) is already stored in intCurrentRecord..

So, let's assume I understood your request.. Find these lines :

'Display message post date and time
  Response.Write(strTxtPosted & " " & DateFormat(dtmPostDate) & " " & strTxtAt & " " & TimeFormat(dtmPostDate))

And add intCurrentRecord +1 in front of it.. The plus 1 is because like everything in ASP, counters start at 0..
Here would be an example :

  Response.Write("#" & intCurrentRecord + 1 & "-" & strTxtPosted & " " & DateFormat(dtmPostDate) & " " & strTxtAt & " " & TimeFormat(dtmPostDate))

Sorry, I got distracted by other things and forgot about this.
The solution Hades posted should work.
