I'm not sure if this has been suggested or not, and with the suggestion thread closed, well... I thought I'd ask.

I would like to see a new feature that hides the reply button on threads that have been closed OR, threads where the user doesn't have permission to post. I know this would mean another look at the user permission before displaying the button, and it may mean another button needs to be created.

Okay... does this fall under the category of a mod?

Anyway... it's just one more "cool" idea that comes from the trenches.

In previous versions this is exactly how it worked, that the reply button and the new topic button where not displayed if the user didn't have permission to use these buttons.

The problem was that although it lists what permissions you do and don't have at the bottom you still had allot of users complaining that their must be a bug because they couldn't see these buttons, so they where put back in and when clicked on give the user a message informing them that they don't have permission to use that feature.

What if instead you were to load a grayed-out version (or opacity 50%) of the buttons that were not links?  Or have a similar image as a replacement that basically told the user they did not have rights to post/reply?  I was just wondering the same thing... then I came across this post.

It maybe worth looking into having two buttons in future versions one of them greyed out for buttons that are disabled,
