I have XP Pro with IIS for testing websites at http://computername but I can only access this in IE, other browsers ask for a password.

I only allow my machine access and want to keep it this way.

See if this works for you:-

1. In Firefox type about:config in the addressbar
2. Find the preference named network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris
3. Doubleclick and type localhost
4. Enter and you're done.

Thanks I just typed in my computername rather than localhost but it worked anyway.

Now I have IE7 asking for a password :(

Out of interest is there a way to find out what the password is its not one I set.

If your IIS is set for Windows Authentication and Anonymous Authentication turned off, it will ask for a password. Unless you wire that password into Firefox it will always ask you. I don't think MS has opened up their Challenge Response Authentication yet to other browsers' makers. In Firefox you should just have to enter your normal windows creds/ to enter.

you have to set the IUSR_<<machinename>> as your IIS web guest account.. where <<machinename>> is the name of your computer
