Hi boRg.

I have a issue around uploading of pictures.
When entering the wysiwyg editor and click the icon for uploading/add a picture, the list of already uploaded pictures is slow as hell. Takes around 30 seconds to show. I have not noticed this before, as I hardly ever upload pictures to my forum. But yesterday one of the users complaint about it and I tested it myself.

Do you have any idea why itīs this slow now? Could the reason be, that there are a lot of pictures ind the upload folder?
If thats the case, what can i do to change the amount of pictures (without having to delete the threads in the forum containing the pictures)?

I also noticed I have a Temp folder, containing almost the same pictures as for my upload folder.. Shouldnīt this be empty?

Iīm running win2003 server here, using MSSQL database. Still on webWiz 8.01 though Embarrassed

The reason why it would be slow is that the FSO object reads all the files names from the hard drive, iof you have a slow hard drive on the server or an overloaded server that has allot of read and writes to the hard drive the list will be slow to load in.

Hmm, thats not good Geek

How come the upload doesnt use a user specific folder anymore? I think I recall it did back in version 7.xx or something? It would mean the server wouldnīt have to scan through several hundres of files each time.

I may be able to change hard drive, but the problem will only get worse in time. And then what to do?

The only reason usernames were used in previous versions was so because uploads were not attached to a post, in teh new version they are but because the database can only hold a small amount of data the file path needs to be kept as short as possiable.

The system is going to be looked at again for version 9 to see if any improvements can be made, like giving users their own folder and only allowing them access to that folder.

The Temp directory shouldn't contain anything, these are orphaned files from things like the user failing to actually post submit the post with the uploaded files and so you can delete the contents of this folder. A tool is planned for the admin area which will clear out this folder for you.
