Many users of XP Home found they couldn't do proper web development because it didn't have IIS and to install IIS after the fact was almost impossible.

Vista will be similar.

IIS in Starter and Home editions of Vista is crippled and not suitable for web development.

If you just do a simple search on google on how to install IIS on XP Home you'll find plenty of tutorials on how to install IIS on XP Home... but I'd rather pay an extra $100 and get XP Pro and not risk damaging my system. I'm sure samething will apply for Vista...

I know that it's been done but there's been as many, if not more, failures as successes. It's a tough upgrade and often results in problems further down the road from auto-update.

I personally wouldn't be getting the home or starter versions anyway.
They will be crippled in many more ways but for you average non-savvy home user they will do just fine.
