if you have not modified your forum then yes you can just replace all forum files/folders.
Don't forget to back your existing forum directory first.

Make sure you make a copy of what you already have on the server, incase something goes wrong.

Assuming you havent tried to edit any files, then it looks like the upload wasn't succesfully completed and some files are corrupt, first off try re-uping the files

Could it be related to your free host? I've had no trouble with the upgrade at all (though I'm using a very custom SQL version) and I've updated 4 forums.

Can you open the database and see if the fields are properly stored? This will help you figure out if it's happening on the insert or the select.

Ah... well you have to have MS Access installed on your computer and then know what you're looking for.
It looks like an encoding issue from what I can tell. Maybe others want to chime in.
|
Posted By: Mikey
Date Posted: 30 December 2006 at 4:13pm
I'm tinking encoding too but thats sort of where my knowledge stops. It might be worth doing a repair of the database if you have Access on your comp.

It looks like it's just the forum name. Try opening your admin panel and check the fields in the configuration.

IT'S NOT JUST THE NAME Trust me the time should be 10:15 am not whatever it says
If you click the logo that is supposed to send you back to the website it goes to BBS2 That isn't right
Also some other options are messed up

Ahhhh it appears you are running the forum on the same server as someone else. You'll need to specify diffrent datavbase prefixs

All of those items are in your forum configuration table... again, I would suggest that you recheck your admin settings and save them again. It may resolve this issue.

I fairly confident you are correct. Changing the prefix is something that is normally done on installation.
I still think if he fixes the configuration and the homepage URL in the config, he should be golden.

I sorta can't hire someone seeing as scouting is an NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION and well the reson why a free host and things like that
I can do I just need some step by step instructions

As far as i know this has been done and it just reverts back afterwards.
To T50webmaster, this is the problem with a free webhost, what is happening is they are hosting you and your forum in the same application pool as other users, this means that webwiz forums is sharing the same pool as well and as someone else has it installed you both have the same database prefix, on install you are asked to choose a prefix for the database tables, it appears that you both have kept the default wwf_ and this causes the server to get confused.
If not to much of a problem i suggest re-installing the forum with a diffrent prefix.

Does that mean my current forum will be erased? Would i be able to keep any of the users and settings? and things already done on it?
|
Posted By: Mikey
Date Posted: 30 December 2006 at 4:37pm
As the problem is with the database then no everything would be gone.
Fortunatley it seems that the forum is in the early stages and now would be the best time to do it.

Essentialy what you are doing is playing a game of internet tug of war with the other forum on the server.
Check their link http://www1.webng.com/bbs2/ - http://www1.webng.com/bbs2/ and notice their forum title and time as soon as they notice this they will change it back un thus undoing yours.
Another thing you could do is request your server space is relocated to another server oir application pool unfortunatley as it's a free web host i can't imagine that they would do this for you.

I dont normaly do this but as i also run not for profit organizations as well i know how hard it can be getting what many people take for granted, if you send me over your access database i will see if i can convert it to use diffrent prefix's to solve the problem.

Just found this post on the forums regarding running two forums on one site.
-boRg- wrote:
Open the file includes/setup_options_inc.asp
In this file
you will find a number of more extra configuration options, the ones
you need to change are for the application variables prefix and the
cookie prefix.
You need to set a different value for each
forum, this way you can run two web wiz forums installations side by
side on the same site.
The two that need changing are show below in red:-
Const strCookieName = "WWF"
Const strAppPrefix = "WWF"
