Can you embed YouTube videos in a thread?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wanted to see if we could embed youtube videos in a thread. I've seen this on blogs, and I know how to embed a picture/image in a thread, but can't figure out how to get the youtube stuff to show up, showing a static image of the video with the little play button in the middle of it, then allowing it to play w/in the thread window.

Here's some example code I copied from the Gizmodo blog that I thought might do it, but no luck.

<center><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value=" - <'>http://www.youtube.com/v/dj0E02NVGF8"></param><embed src=" http://www.youtube.com/v/dj0E02NVGF8 - http://www.youtube.com/v/dj0E02NVGF8 " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object></center>

as long as you've turned on Flash, and are posting the code correctly you shouldnt have any problems.

    could you:
     - explain in more details whats acctually wrong rather than saying "it dont work" .. what hasnt worked? expand...
     - post the original YouTube Code
     - and post what your trying to post in your ... post

I have Flash turned on and I tried the following code:

    [FLASH WIDTH=425 HEIGHT=350]http://www.youtube.com/v/SPE8vL5hlFA[/FLASH]

And I get the following output..
    < ="http://www.lodogg.com/forum/%3Cspan%20style=" color="" rgb(136="" 0="">http://www.youtube.com/v/SPE8vL5hlFA" quality=high width=50 height=50 type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash">

But when I copy and paste the link above it works?

They should make this a feature where members can insert youtube embedded videos without ever having to worry about code.  Many forums have already done this.

if you are copy and pasting from my tutorial, try manually typing it.

as the coloring i added to highlight areas might be effecting it.

or you can try coping the below, without coloring:

    [FLASH WIDTH=425 HEIGHT=350]http://www.youtube.com/v/SPE8vL5hlFA[/FLASH]

Is there an easy way to also embed a google video using the [FLASH] tag?

    Date Posted: 01 March 2007 at 3:34pm
post an example of some code for a google video and i can show you.

if its a basic flash movie, it works exactly the same as my ' http://www.s2h.co.uk/wwf/tips/add-content/add-youtube-videos.asp - Add a YouTube video ' tutorial.

    <embed style="width:400px; height:326px;" id="VideoPlayback" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src=" http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=-1310610142624598135&hl=en - http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=-1310610142624598135&hl=en " flashvars=""> </embed>

ok, the problem is like the problem i had recently with YouTube Videos,

the RTE editor is messing it up with fonts and links,

if anyone has problems using the [FLASH][/FLASH] tags, try to copy the code into Notepad, which will remove any formating like fonts or links or what ever else is in their.

    try this:

    [FLASH HEIGHT=326 WIDTH=400]http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=-1310610142624598135&hl=en[/FLASH]

i dont see why you need a [youtube] BBCode, when it does the same as a [FLASH] BBCode

I'm with scotty, its already fairly easy to embed youtube videos. Also, thanks for the Multimedia Functions mod S2H, its good

I made the mod to make it easier for my users to post youtube video.  People found it difficult to understand what part of the embed to cut and paste into the [FLASH] code.

My users are generally not tech savvy people.  So this just makes it easier for them to post.

Someone on the forum asked for this so I provided it.

This utube problem has been solved Smile

I now have it working on version 8 after some slight adjustments on the forum.codes.asp, functions/function.format_post.asp and forum_posts.asp Wink

The changes are quite simple thanks to a lot of advice here and seeing how version 9 works. I would like to upgrade to version 9 but I'm worried about losing the posts, members, stats etc. I knew I should have taken up computing as a job Tongue

Version 9 comes with an upgrade tool. There is only a few extra fields in the version 9 database compared with version 8 and the upgrade tool does them all for you without loosing any data.
