Hi All,

I am running an older version of the forum that has been translated into another language. Just created a fresh db, the db connection is set up properly in the code, but when I try to delete a post, I get the following error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005'

Could not find server 'MyServer' in sysservers. Execute sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sysservers.

/forum/delete_post.asp, line 166

Does ANYONE have any idea why this is happening? Its all running locally, there are no remote servers involved so I dont understand this problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

This error can often happen if the name of the server (computer) is changed after the SQL Server is installed.

You can run the sp_addlinkedserver command with the new name of the server to update SQL Server to fix this but often it courses other issues, the best thing to do is to un-install then reinstalled the SQL Server instance. This is the actual SQL Server not the database so may need the server admin to do this if you don't have access to the server.

For further help check out MSDN as this is an issue with SQL Server rather than the forum software.
