I would like to setup a board where there are several public forums in addition to some private forums.  The I would like to create non-ladder groups that have access to the private forums.  I would like to then assign specific users to an array of groups to control their access to the private forums.

For example,

Forums A, B and C are all public (all can see)
Forums D and E are private (members of group 1 can see)
Forums F and G are private (members of group 2 can see)
Forums H and I are private (members of group 3 can see)

I would then like to assign a given user bob to groups 1 and 2 so that he could view the forums A, B, C, D, E, F and G.

I could also assign another user ted to groups 2 and 3 so that they could view A, B, C, F, G, H and I.

Another user carol would be assigned to 1 and 3 and could see posts in A, B, C, D, E, H and I.

Finally, alice is not assigned to any special group and can only see A, B and C.

Is that possible?

thanks,
Michael

Simple answer, no.

What you would need to do is create a group for each combination of access that is required to the private forums. From the combinations you gave above, that would be 6 groups in total. Any other combination (such as to D, E, F, G, H and I) would need a new group too.

Thanks for the reply.

I suspected as much, but being new to the software, thought it made sense to ask.

Perhaps a feature request?

Michael
