This can be coursed by the page encoding that you use, Try altering the page encoding. This forum uses UTF-8 and as you can see here £, the pound sign works fine in the forums RTE which is the same as used in the standalone RTE.

Hello there Bruce

We have the same issue on allempires.net, and not only related to the RTE. We get those squares in usernames as well after the update to the new version.
Does that make any difference?

Thanks

The issue you have is actually unrelated to this topic as you are talking about something unrelated in Web Wiz Forums and changing the page encoding.

If you see squares in usernames then it means that you are not using the same page encoding as you did with your previous version.

If you change page encoding then the browser tries to render the charcaters based on the new page encoding, if the characters where saved under a different encoding then if the browser can not render the character it displays a square.

To solve this you need to go back to your previous encoding, however anything saved under the new encoding may not render correctly.
