I wish that WWF would improve on its profile page.

In a day when website communities are becoming more and more important (look at trends with blogs, myspace, personal homepage, and even search is moving to a more community based rating system), it is important that users can show express themselves in a more personable fashion.

A forum software is based on the community idea, and instead of all of the users of my site having to setup profiles elsewhere and link to them, causing users to leave the site, it would be nice if the WWF improved on its profile page a little bit, for example, allowing at least one field with a long description (Interests, About Me, etc), instead of just single line answers.

Thanks!

Nice idea, any links or examples of how a good profile page should look?

The trend and technologies on the web appears to be moving towards more community based web models.  The more you can integrate that into your already great forum technology, the better the software will become.

Blogging, personal homepages, online communities, chatting, cyber networking -- people love that stuff.  Everytime we mention any of those things to our users, they get very excited http://www.mysavings.com/forum/ - http://www.mysavings.com/forum/

People are no longer hiding behind their monitors, and want to be seen and have other people see them.  We spend so much time on our computers now-a-days, its not surprise that we want them to become a more social tool.

I looked around for a good profile page to give you a good example, but I didn't find any that I thought were the perfect example.

I did ask for feedback from all of our users, and this is the summary of what I got.

1) The ability to have a larger profile image, not just the small thumbnail / avatar.

2) The ability to upload a few images (perhaps 3-5 images?).  Lots of people want to show a few pictures of themselves, or their pets, etc.

3) A section / field on the profile page where people can write about themselves "About Me".  Currently all of the profile questions and answers are one liners, which makes the answers very to the point and bland.

Here is one example, to show a little different take on things, and how longer answers, and more pictures make looking at profiles much more interesting: http://www.blogger.com/profile/9820432 - http://www.blogger.com/profile/9820432

Would love to see this stuff or hear your comments!
