I want to be able to create a sign up form for users who want to upload images to a site I am working on. After signing up I want them to receive an e-mail with an activation link, just like this forum.

Create a seperate login page linked to the webwiz forum database.

When users sign up, set a property in your database to zero or something like that to signify unactivated. Then make an activation page that simply changes the number from 0 to 1 when the link is opened. On the logon page, before they get logged on, check the activation field to see if its 0 or 1, and proceed to logon or deny.
