When i upload files to my forum the link appears as something like this

http://www.gamer-park.com/uploads/temp/20070508_165548_Gamer-Park_PDF.pdf - uploads/temp/20070508_165548_Gamer-Park_PDF.pdf

is there any way in which i can mask this unsightly URL and create a smaller nicer looking text link like this:

Gamer Pro PDF

Also, when the link is clicked the browser tries to open the PDF using the web browsers adobe reader plug in, without giving me the option to download it. Is there any way in which i can make the link open a typical "open, save and cancel" dialogue box for downloads, i've seen other forums do it.

Wait I figured it out the URL hiding thing, but PDFs still open immediately without the option to save them

This is down to how you have setup your browser to handle PDF's if it is setup to open them it will, if it is setup to download them, then it will do that also.

How did you do it?

You can edit the text using the RTE and the text should still be linked to the same upload, however if you edit/delete the extension i.e. .pdf the text loses its hyperlink

I have a working example here about 9th post down

Thanks cathal. I was actually hoping to have it automatically done when you post. I thought it might have been in RTE_popup_file_atch.asp but I can't find a reference where it builds the hyperlink in the format:
<a href=linklocation>text to display</a>

The 'text to display is what I want to omit the "uploads/" bit

I'll keep looking.

Cheers

Justin

I would also like to enable a function like this - ideally I would like any files uploaded to be shown at the bottom of the message as an icon with the filename underneath.

On looking at the code it is possible during the post of the message, but it needs to be coded for in the edit / reading of the post which appears to be more complicated - If anyone finds a solution I would love to see the code.

Thanks
Darren
