Hello,

I just downloaded 8.06 and installed it and am having some fits with Windows Authentication.

I changed the statement to TRUE in the functions/functions_windows_authentication.asp and disabled Anonymous Authentication to the Forums directory and enabled Integrated Authentication.

I had the SQL DB on a SQL2005 box and am using the SA account for connection. I am able to create the db and run the config script. I open the admin.asp page with my domain admin account and log in with the administrator info from the documentation.

However, I cannot change the group membership of my domain account while logged in as the administrator.

Also, whenever I try accessing the site with another domain account, the account creating fails with a SQL error.

I decided to try using SQL2000 as the backend and the account creation seems to work. However, when you initially access the site, you get the Quick Login field at the upper right and when you enter your domain credentials it fails and loads another login page. Continuing to submit credentials does not work. However just hitting back to the main page, removes the Quick login field and the user is correctly logged in. This seems to be described in post: http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=23389 - http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=23389

With this current setup, seems like most of the functions work, but I still cannot edit user group memberships. I am getting an error like this person described: http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=23468&KW=windows+authentication - http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=23468&KW=windows+authentication

In my searching I think someone mentioned a cookie issue? If anyone can shed some light on this it would be much appreciated.  Awww man... I thought I had part of it solved here:

http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=20554&KW=admin+cookie - http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=20554&KW=admin+cookie

p.s. Also, I can't seem to find any more info regarding this post: http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=22616&KW=email+address+info - http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=22616&KW=email+address+info

I would definitely be interested in something that pulls more info from Active Directory.

Thanks in advance.

Ok...thinking out loud...

Could the msSQL_server_setup.asp script be modified to drop in a domain account as the administrator with a proper password???

Sorry, I see that this would violate the License agreement.

Modifying the Active Directory account in the database corrupts the account.

Man, someone must have this licked?

Please don't ban me for continuing to own thread.

Alright, I login in directly to the admin.asp page as the non active directory admin account.

It's already well established that you cannot go thru the menus and modify the users group membership because it opens new windows and that browser session is using Windows Authentication.

Sooooo, I tried putting the url directly into the current Admin browser window for the account I want to modify.

I put in http://localhost/register.asp?PF=3&M=A#admin - http://localhost/register.asp?PF=3&M=A#admin and boom...there is the option to change the group membership of my domain account. I choose the Admin group and hit Submit..........

Access Denied. Only members with sufficient permissions can access this page.

If I can add just one AD account to Active Directory...everything else falls into place.

The Windows Authentication feature is being worked on for version 9 which will hopefully be released in beta within weeks.

If you contact support directly at Web Wiz we should b able to email you through some new version 9 admin files that will allow the admin to update user details and groups when using Windows Authentication.
