I did some searching on this forum to try to find out how to post YouTube videos on Version 8.x forums, and many of the threads seemed very confusing. People were giving out different instructions, and most of them didn't seem to work for me (or anyone else). Here is what I found to work:

1. Make sure you have Flash turned on in your Forum Configuration.

2. Use the FLASH tags as shown in the code below (I put an asterisk in place of the letter "A" in the tag so you can see the code):

[FL*SH WIDTH=425 HEIGHT=350]http://www.youtube.com/v/omFdpnSu57U[/FL*SH]

Notice the /v/EZ9To30Hz7A on the end of the URL? I tried using the normal YouTube URL that looks like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omFdpnSu57U - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omFdpnSu57U , but you cannot use that. You have to scrape the URL out of the "Embed" code shown on the YouTube page next to the video.

Here is the result:

[FLASH WIDTH=425 HEIGHT=350]http://www.youtube.com/v/omFdpnSu57U[/FLASH]

I hope this helps anyone who is searching for this solution on here. It should save you some time searching. Maybe the Moderator can make this a sticky thread so it's easy to find?

Clap

That's the way I've been doing it for months and its the only way that it has worked for me. I think this is definitely the correct way to go about it on V8.

A button added to the RTE (a la the Images and URL buttons) that inserts the flash tags for users would be super-swell too ... I've tried to add myself, but my programing skills aren't up to snuff ... : (

Web Wiz Forums version 9 natively supports YouTube using the [TUBE] BBcodes.

The YouTube video is not uploaded to your site as it is simply a link to the video on YouTube.

If someone watches a YouTube video in your forum they are using YouTube's bandwidth not your web sites, so will not slow down your forum or increase the consumed bandwidth.

I tried using the normal YouTube URL that looks like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omFdpnSu57U - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omFdpnSu57U , but you cannot use that. You have to scrape the URL out of the "Embed" code shown on the YouTube page next to the video."

I have hopefully clarified how to post UTube videos a bit better as shown below:

Sometimes, if you see for example, something like this:

v=HzeZhCt5PVA&feature=rec-fresh

You would only want to copy and paste the bit starting with HzeZhCt5PVA BUT not the additional bit continuing with &feature=rec-fresh
This is SURPLUS to requirements and is only something UTube uses for Feature Related materials

The other option is upgrade to 9.51 which has an Insert Movie button that does all this for you.

It even has a Preview window to check that your YouTube video is correctly linked and you can copy and paste the whole YouTube URL across rather than just the file name.
